Ch.1 Overview of Design Concepts
Internet is non-linear, transactional and a one-to-one medium. The most distinct feature of the Internet is its interactivity with the user. Traditional print media cannot personalize the user's experience. The web medium can optimize the possibilities of interactivity and personalization for the user. This creates direct connection between the business and the visitor.
The advantage of data-driven content is that it reflects the most current information, numbers and statistics because the information is drawn from a database at the time the user requests it.
Intranet - for employees only.
Extranet - for outside vendors and business partners.
WYSIWYG - What You See Is What You Get.
Two WYSIWYG-editors stand out today: Macromedia Dreamweaver and Microsoft Frontpage.
Flash enables media-rich content to be delivered while also conserving bandwidth.
The primary goal in web-design is to give users what they want, not what YOU think they want. Studies confirm that the overuse of multimedia will discourage visitors.
